La Ceiba is one of the most approachable and friendly cities in Honduras. Though it lacks architectural and historical appeal, its real beauty lies in the landscapes and beautiful beaches. The city offers a very lively and diverse nightlife for all activities. People also refer to this city as the "city that is always playing". People seem to celebrate life at night at various dance clubs, carnivals and festivals with the infectious rhythm of Caribbean music.
There’s a daily ferry service that will take you to the neighboring small islands in the Caribbean Sea. Within the city itself, public buses and taxis are a good option, quite cheap and reliable. Yet if you like walking, just take your time and stroll throughout the city to get a closer insight of all the places it has to offer to you.
Outside of La Ceiba you can visit Sambo Creek, an interesting indigenous town, with some nice beaches. Or else, you can take a ferry to some of the nearby paradisiac islands enclosed by the waters of the Caribbean. Cayos Cochinos is a series of small cays almost fronting La Ceiba that has been declared Biological Reserve, a real, exuberant, and unspoilt natural treasure. The tropical island of Utila is just 29 km (18 miles) from La Ceiba, and it’s surrounded by vast coral reefs and a prolific undersea life, so scuba-diving, snorkeling, and swimming are the favorite activities among visitors.
