Merida is also known as a very safe city with almost no crime. The natives are very friendly and welcome people from all over the world. It is also a clean city with many parks, traditionally paved streets, and recreational areas for outdoor sports and activities.
Merida is commonly described as the "White City" for its many white painted colonial constructions and limestone. Though the city is considered to be a vivid representation of colonial times, it also contains modern and urban features. The Old and New display has captivated and attracted visitors from all over the world.

The Spanish school in Merida has been opened to the public since 1974 and is recognized and accredited by the Yucatan Secretary of Education.
The building is located in downtown area, near the famous Paseo del Montejo and the Zocalo.
The Spanish school counts with ten classrooms, a spacious lounge area, two administrative offices, an auditorium and a computer lab with WIFI Internet access.
The Spanish School organizes three afternoon activities per week and different excursions. They inlcude visits to Chichen Itza, Uxmal, Palya del Carmen, Holbox Island and many more.
