Green mountains in Ecuador
Though small in size, Ecuador is a vast land packed with the most startling contrasts of sceneries. From tropical rainforests, going through ice-capped volcanoes, to deep blue beaches, Ecuador is the paradise of biodiversity, boasting some 1,600 species of birds and over 3,500 species of orchids, just to mention a few examples. Nowhere is this spectacular and exceptional wildlife more vivid than in the Galapagos Islands, a sacred shelter for golden beaches, transparent waters, dense vegetation, active volcanoes, and the protected giant turtles. As if this wasn’t already enough, Ecuador is also a multiethnic and pluricultural nation, where more than 14 indigenous groups still inhabit the country and live by their traditions and original ways of life.

With the arrival of the new century, Ecuador has consolidated its commercial and cultural exchange offering a well-developed tourist infrastructure, solid means of communication and an economy in slow but steady recovery. Today’s Ecuadorian economy is mostly based on its export of natural resources, such as fruits, vegetables, and flowers. Its people place great emphasis on the family and friends, outdoor pastimes and the enjoyment of local celebrations and holidays.
