With more than 660,000 inhabitants Frankfurt is the fifth-greatest city in Germany and the greatest in the federal state Hesse. Frankfurt, located nearly in the middle of the country and on the River Main, is considered to be the richest city in Europe.
Perhaps for that reason, Frankfurt airport is one of the biggest in the world. The annual book fair is the most important of the country. Besides the high position of economy the people of Frankfurt love their comfortable traditional pubs where they meet to enjoy the typical refreshing apple wine and "Handkäs" (a German cheese).
Frankfurt is certainly Germany’s financial capital and the home of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange and a number of major banks which form the famous Skyline. The multicultural city has many faces: museums at the river bank and in the center, many festivals, wide shopping areas and typical culinary specialities.
