Located at the confluence of the St. Lawrence and Saint Charles rivers in the southern part of the province, Quebec is the largest city in the province of the same name. Its beautiful location at the masterful position on steep cliffs that overlook the St. Lawrence Seaway, and the great historic heritage Quebec has prompted UNESCO to classify the old part of the city as a World Heritage Site.
Quebec is the "cradle of New France", and as such its power lies in its strong defense for the French culture in North America. For its sceneries, historic buildings, and traditionalist view, still with a touch of freshness, Quebec is considered the most charming city in the North American continent. Nowhere else is the past so vivid and valued, and nowhere else is the future so hardly defended and protected.
Quebec is a city with a strong personality and unique idiosyncracy. It presents a dual character: one part of the city is English, serious, self-assured, and workaholic; the other is French, imaginative, lighthearted, and fond of the pleasures of life. Yet these two sides of the same coin coexist quite strongly in Quebec, which makes the city a place you need to understand deeply at first, until you get accustomed to it. However, Quebec is rather conservative, more French-like, housing more Francophones in proportion, with an individual spirit and aspirations of independence from Canada. Meanwhile, Quebec is a progressive metropolitan city, with stunning natural panoramas, and housing some of the most prominent universities of Canada.
