Student Studying for 6 weeks in Rome, Italy

Why did you decide to study abroad? Why did you choose to do it here?
Now a day is mandatory to know more languages. I speak a little Spanish but I needed to add another one to my CV. So I decided to get fully immersed in a culture and study Italian! I always dreamed on spending the afternoon among Rome’s streets, and watching the sun go down in this superb place!

What did you know about Rome before coming?
I think I shared my knowledge with the whole human race! I knew a little about history and culture, but I didn’t speak a word of Italian! So this was going to be a huge challenge for me.

What were your thoughts before coming? Were you concerned about anything?
My only fear was not being able to communicate. But I wasn’t scared just anxious to spend six wonderful weeks in this enormous piece of human history land!

What was the first thing that caught your attention?  
Sightseeing in Rome has one problem: there is so much to see. My school’s teacher told me to begin my expedition trip in the Centro Storico where lays a vast collection of classical sights. Great way of starting my Italian experience!

How did you overcome the cultural shock? What was the most difficult thing for you to get used to?
I didn’t have cultural shock (yet). The only thing that has been a bit difficult for me was getting used to public transportation; it’s quite different and a little messy.

Have you gone out? What do you think about the nightlife here?
I went to a bar with my friends from school. We really enjoy it. The atmosphere was so relaxed and thrilling! Still, I think we didn’t enjoy all the splendor of Roman nightlife yet.

Would you recommend this trip?
With all my heart. I think Rome it’s a must for everyone!
