Interview of the Month

Student Studying for 2 Weeks in Antigua, Guatemala

Rayburn Kevin, from CA

“I am not sure if I use verbs correctly or if I follow grammar rules properly, but I could communicate perfectly during my stay!”

This was your first time abroad?
No, I’ve been to other places before. But this is the first time I take a Spanish course abroad.

What did you like the most about Guatemala?
The Mayan ruins in Tikal. They are for sure the most attractive feature of the country. In Tikal they are also very attractive since they are surrounded by the jungle. What also called my attention where the thousands of street vendors in Antigua that sold a lot of different things; from necklaces to cheese ice-cream.

How was the experience of learning Spanish in Guatemala?
It was very good actually. I am not sure if I use verbs correctly or if I follow grammar rules properly, but I could communicate perfectly during my stay! I will probably continue studying Spanish in California.

Did you have the possibility of visiting different areas? Which ones and which one did you like the most?
I just travelled outside Antigua during my first weekend. I went to Lake Atitlan which the school recommended I should go. You get to see the locals in their REAL customs.

What did you like most about the school?
I liked the terrace of the school. Having classes outside was very motivating and relaxing. It didn’t feel like studying!

What did you like the least about your experience?
I wanted to take private lessons besides my regular group course; but private lessons could only be taken during the afternoon and I felt like I was going to be studying all day and I wouldn’t have time to go around the city if I booked those lessons. That was kind of frustrating. But the school gave me great advice and I took one week of Private course and that was enough to focus on what I wanted to learn specifically.
